Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account. Your email address. We do not use passwords — we send a one-time code to your email to sign you in.
- Waitlist. If you joined our pre-launch waitlist, we collected your email address, and anything else you chose to tell us, through a third-party form provider.
- Vehicle lookups. The vehicle identifiers you scan or type (such as a VIN), and the details you give us for an assessment — for example whether you are buying the vehicle or already own it, the asking price, the mileage, your region, the vehicle's condition, and the questions you ask about it.
- Support messages. What you send us when you contact us, and our replies.
- Consents. Which agreements you accepted and when — and, so we have a record of that consent, the date, your IP address, and basic device or browser information at the time.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data. Basic events about how the Service is used (for example, that a verdict was generated or a report was purchased), your app version and device type, IP address, and the server logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the Service.
Payment information
Purchases are made through the app store you downloaded from — the Apple App Store or Google Play — using its in-app purchase system. The app store processes the payment; we do not receive or store your card number. We keep a record that a purchase happened — its amount, date, status, and the store's transaction reference — so we can support you, restore your credits, and account for the sale.
How we use information
We do not use your personal information to serve you advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
- To provide the Service: decode the vehicle, look up its history, generate the verdict and report, save your reports to your account, and answer your follow-up questions.
- To process purchases, restore credits, issue refunds, and provide customer support.
- To operate, secure, monitor, debug, and improve the Service, including improving the accuracy of our assessments.
- To communicate with you about your account, your purchases, and your reports — including optional follow-up check-ins on a vehicle, which you can decline at any time.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, including enforcing our free-tier limits and detecting duplicate accounts.
- To comply with legal obligations, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
How information is shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers. Companies that operate parts of the Service for us. By function: a language-analysis provider that generates the assessment text, a vehicle-data provider that supplies history, title, and recall records, the app stores' in-app purchase systems and a purchase-management provider that process and record purchases, a cloud hosting provider, an email delivery provider, an analytics provider that helps us understand how the Service is used, and a form provider used for our waitlist. Each receives only what its function requires and is contractually bound to protect it and to use it only for us. A current list of these providers is available on request at privacy@yescarnocar.com.
- Legal reasons. To comply with law or valid legal process, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us.
- Business transfer. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
Vehicle data and de-identified information
Information about a vehicle — tied to a VIN rather than to you — and non-personal, aggregated insights derived from many lookups (for example, the common failure patterns of a given year, make, and model) are not personal to you. We retain and use that information to improve the Service, including after your account is deleted. We do not use it to identify you.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account information and your reports while your account is active, so you can return to a vehicle you have already paid for without paying again.
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete my account.
Deletion permanently removes your account and your personal data — your email address, your saved reports and follow-up questions, your consent records, and your purchase history — except that:
- we retain the limited records we are required to keep for tax, accounting, legal, and fraud-prevention purposes;
- our payment processor retains its own transaction records under its own obligations;
- copies may persist in secure backups for a limited period before they are overwritten on our normal backup cycle;
- de-identified vehicle and aggregate data that does not identify you is retained, as described in section 4.
Deleting your account forfeits any unused report credits, which are not refundable. We will warn you before deletion is final.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise the core of these rights yourself, immediately, by deleting your account in the app. For anything else, contact us at privacy@yescarnocar.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal information on these bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the Service you asked for), for our legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the Service, and preventing fraud), with your consent (optional communications), and to comply with legal obligations. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Email from us
We send transactional email: sign-in codes, purchase receipts, and your reports. These are part of the Service and are not marketing.
We may also send optional messages — vehicle check-ins and occasional product news. Every one of those includes a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing never affects your access to reports you have paid for.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and restricted internal access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Because we sign you in with a one-time code by email rather than a password, keeping your email account secure is an important part of keeping your Yes Car No Car account secure.
Children
The Service is not directed to, and is not intended for, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a child has given us information, contact privacy@yescarnocar.com.
Where we operate
We operate the Service in the United States, and we store and process information there. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
Changes
We may update this Policy. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email and update the effective date above.
